The cupboard is the result of an extensive search for perspective. The idea came to me after I was inspired by the skyline of Miami FL. I was there on holiday and was captivated by the skyline. The overwhelming effect of the size, height and depth of the structures was a magnificent experience. A few years later, when I began designing and seeking inspiration for my graduation project, I accidentally came across the photos of that holiday. That once again sparked an interest in me and consequently I started experimenting on paper.
Pretty soon, I was able to incorporate my results into a 3D design program, where I succeeded in translating the effect of a 2D perspective drawing into a 3D object on the computer. From this point on, I was able to experiment with shapes. I did this by making scale models of the many possibilities that I had discovered. After an extensive research for shapes, I decided to place 5 of the same cubes on a horizon for the perspective image, and to develop this into a 3 dimensional model. I was highly satisfied with the shape, actually the assignment for the graduation project only asked for a functional piece of furniture. The first goal had been achieved, to give it a complete 3 dimensional shape, which presented me with the next challenge, to turn this object into a piece of furniture without sacrificing part of the design. During the design process, the design became a hanging object, which created the possibility for a wall unit. With the knowledge and experience I had collected throughout the years, a storage function was added to the object without sacrificing the shape. I thus present the Horizon 1 with a proud smile on my face. 1 because the wall cupboard is the first piece of furniture of my own furniture line, with a concept from which I will often draw inspiration.
Horizon 1 is available in all colors and may also be custom made from massive wood.
